Summer Mixed Tape-How To Be Rich
Deuteronomy 24:19-22

This Sunday we challenged one of our culture's biggest assumptions: that becoming rich is simply a matter of making more money.
The Scriptures paint a different picture.
Real wealth isn't measured only by income, but by margin. Margin in our finances. Margin in our schedules. Margin in our hearts.
In Deuteronomy, God instructed His people not to harvest every last bit of grain or pick every remaining grape. They were to intentionally leave some behind so the foreigner, the orphan, and the widow would have enough. God's people were never meant to consume everything that came into their possession. Instead, they were called to trust God's provision, cultivate contentment, and leave room for generosity.
---Go a Little Deeper
The command to leave grain in the field wasn't simply an agricultural strategy—it was a spiritual discipline.
Notice that God didn't tell Israel to gather everything first and then decide whether to be generous.
He told them to build generosity into the harvest itself.
That changes everything.
Most of us think generosity happens after we've paid the bills, reached our savings goals, or finally feel financially secure. But Scripture assumes something different. It assumes that if we wait until we feel like we have "extra," we'll probably never feel like we do.
Leaving grain in the field required trust.
It meant believing that God would continue to provide even though they intentionally chose not to maximize what they could keep.
Maybe that's why Moses ends this passage by reminding Israel that they had once been slaves in Egypt. People who remember God's provision are often the most willing to become God's provision for someone else. Contentment grows wherever gratitude takes root.

Suggested Practice
Practice creating one intentional margin this week.
Leave a little extra time between appointments. Leave a little money in your budget for generosity. Leave some emotional space by saying no to one unnecessary commitment.
As you do, pray:
"Lord, help me trust that I don't have to consume everything You've given me. Teach me to leave room for You to work through me."

Closing Prayer
Lord,
Thank You for being a generous God who has faithfully provided for us again and again. Teach us the secret of contentment. Free us from believing that more possessions will satisfy our deepest needs. Give us the courage to leave margin in our lives—not out of fear, but out of trust in Your goodness. May the resources You've entrusted to us become a blessing to those around us, and may our lives point others to Your abundant grace.
